NDA EXAM

The National Defence Academy(NDA) exam is a national level exam that is conducted offline by the United Public Service Commission(UPSC) for recruiting candidates for Air Force, Army and Navy wings. The National Defence Academy and Naval Academy exam (NDA &NA) takes place twice a year in two stages: Written Exam and SSB Interview (intelligence and physical examinations are done).  Every year close to 4 lakh candidates appear for the test and around 6000 are called for the SSB interview.

NDA Exam Eligibility 

The eligibility criteria are based on nationality, age limit, marital status, educational qualification and physical & visual standards

Nationality

  • Candidate must be a citizen of India/Nepal/Bhutan 
  • A candidate could be a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to settle permanently.
  • A person of Indian origin migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan & East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
  • Such candidates will have to get the certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit

Candidates should be between the age limit of 18-23 years. they should have been born between 2nd July 1999 and 1st July 2002.

Gender and Marital Status

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to appear for this examination. Unfortunately, female candidates are not allowed. 

Note: If any candidate marries before completing the training, he will be discharged and will be liable to refund all the expenditure incurred on him by the government. 

Educational Qualification

For Indian Army: Candidates should have passed 12th or its equivalent examination from any recognized board. 

For Indian Navy and Air Force and Naval Academy of NDA: Candidates should have passed 12th from a recognized board or university with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Note: Candidates appearing for the final exams of 12th standard can also apply for the exam.

Physical Standards

  • Candidates appearing in the examination should be mentally and physically fit as per the medical standards set by National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination.
  • The minimum height should be 157 cms and for Air Force is 162.5 cms
  • Minimum height is 5 cms for candidates belonging to Gorkha tribe and hills of North-Eastern areas of India, Garhwal, and Kumaon, minimum
  • In the case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum height can be reduced by 2 cms.

Visual Standards

  • The distance vision should be 6/6 in the better eye 6/9 in the worse eye
  • Myopia should not be more than 2.5 D
  • Hypermetropia not more than 3.5 D including Astigmatism
  • Candidates with spectacles are not eligible for Air Force
  • The color vision standard will be (CP-III) for the Army

NDA Exam Pattern

There will be multiple type questions in both the exams and it is conducted in both Hindi and English language.

Marking Scheme

  • In the General Ability test, 4 marks will be given for each correct answer and 1.3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • For mathematics, 2.5 marks will be given for each correct answer and 0.83 will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • There will be no negative marking for unattempted questions.

Indian Airforce (X and Y) Exam 

Indian Air Force exam for X & Y Group is a national level exam organised by the Indian Air Force. This exam is conducted twice a year for the young undergraduates who are aspiring to join Indian Air force.  Group X & Y personnel are known as Airmen who are below officer rank in the Indian Air Force.

Group X ( Technical Trade)

  • Candidates must have passed/appeared 10+2 with Maths and Physics.
  • Only male aspiring candidates are eligible who are at least 18 years and not more than 21 years.
  • Candidates must be unmarried and Indian citizens.

Group Y (Non-technical)

  • Candidates must have passed/appeared 10+2 in any stream
  • Only male candidates are eligible who are at least 18 years and not more than 21 years.
  • Candidates must be unmarried and Indian citizens.

The selection process is divided into three parts:

  • Online Test
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • Medical Test

Marking Scheme

  • For every right answer, 1 mark will be given and 0.25 marks shall be deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • There will be no negative marking on unattempted questions.

Indian Navy (AA and SSR) Exam

A golden opportunity for unmarried males wanting to make a career in the Indian Navy. The selected candidates are divided into X (Artificial Apprentices) and Y (Senior Secondary Recruits) group.

Indian Navy (AA and SSR)  Exam Eligibility 

  • Applicant must be an unmarried male and should not be less than 18 years and more than 21 years.
  • Applicant must have passed class 12th having subjects Physics, Maths, Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry with minimum 60% or more from any recognized institution.
